A Typical and True Burglary Experience
"I came home late one night to find the front door to my new build flat axe butchered and lots of personal items missing. My area is normally so quiet and feels so safe that I must admit I was lulled into a false sense of security and had only single locked the door that day. Of course this came as a devastating shock to myself and my partner.
The thieves came in the afternoon while we were at work. They somehow managed to get buzzed into the block, prised the door open with a crowbar or similar tool and achieved this by critically damaging the wooden door in the area where the locks are and smashing the frame. The police crime prevention officers inspected the damaged door and said that even if I had double locked the door the thieves would still have been able to get in, only it would have taken longer. Nobody heard or saw anything.
It was a difficult experience and nothing can prepare you for the dread that one feels and the 'what if' scenarios that go through the mind. Be aware! - Locking your conventional rim and mortice lock will not keep a burglar out
Note that the burglar here has broken the wooden door in two in order to gain access, leaving the fragment of door containing the two locks, which are still inserted into the frame. While the locks are of good quality, they have been rendered irrelevant by the wooden door.

Points to consider when purchasing a steel door
- Do not go for the cheapest price - does the door comply with the Europe-wide fire resistance standard BS EN 1634-1? (which replaces the previous British Standard for fire resistance)
- Is the door and locking mechanism made in the UK ?
- Does the security key come with a side bar ?
- Telephone the company in the evening or at weekends to see if they are offering the service they promised should anything go wrong with the door locking mechanism e.g. An attempted burglary etc

- Is the telephone manner of the company that you'll contacting professional in answering all your questions ?
